How it works

In “Days between dates” the tool walks forward from the start date one day at a time and counts every Monday to Friday it lands on. The start date itself is not counted and the end date is.

Thursday 1 January → Thursday 8 January

Counted: Fri 2, Mon 5, Tue 6, Wed 7, Thu 8  = 5 business days
Skipped: Sat 3, Sun 4                        = 2 weekend days

“Add business days” does the reverse: it steps forward, skipping Saturdays and Sundays, until it has counted the number you asked for. Public holidays are not known to the tool, so subtract any that fall in your range. The weekend is fixed as Saturday and Sunday.

Frequently asked questions

How are the days counted?

Every weekday (Monday–Friday) after the start date, up to and including the end date. The start date itself is not counted — matching how deadlines like “within 10 business days” usually work.

Are public holidays excluded?

No — holidays differ by country, region and even company. The count excludes weekends only; subtract any holidays in your range manually.

What if the end date is a weekend?

Weekend days are never counted, so a range ending on a Saturday or Sunday counts the same as one ending the previous Friday.
