How it works
Encode turns your text into UTF-8 bytes and writes those bytes in the 64-character Base64 alphabet. Decode does the reverse and reads the bytes back as UTF-8, so accents, emoji and non-Latin scripts survive the round trip.
| Text | Base64 |
|---|---|
| A | QQ== |
| AB | QUI= |
| ABC | QUJD |
Base64 output is about a third longer than the input. Spaces and line breaks in pasted Base64 are ignored when decoding. The URL-safe variant, which uses - and _ in place of + and /, has to be changed back to + and / first. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it.
